I have to admit that I enjoy being around my friends kids. At times I wish I were a dad. Heh… they talk about women getting “the itch” but to be honest, it’s something that transcends gender, the desire to have a child to raise, to tuck into bed, to tell stories with and so forth. Of course, I also have been around my friends kids enough to see the… not so pleasant side of it. Changing diapers when they’re young, the tantrums, the screaming… but ask any parent, and they’ll usually admit it’s worth it.

But in the meantime… I enjoy being with my friends and their kids. Maybe it’s because I can leave afterward. But still… it’s a lot of fun playing with them, especially when they’re young.

Jennie of The Devil’s Panties no doubt feels the same way as I do. You can tell how much she loves her niece and nephew. And going to a Rennfaire with them… she’s sharing something she enjoys with her sister’s children. (Of course, most of the Rennfaires I’ve been to haven’t had rides, but still…)

The final panel of today’s comic just so sums it up. Jenn picking up her nephew and twirling him around in circles… that’s just plain fun! Yeah, it wears you out quickly and the kid wants more… but really, it’s kind of sweet… especially in that with all the choices of rides to go on… Auntie Jenn is his favorite ride of all.

Now I want to visit one of my friends and go to the playground with her and her son.
