Nukees

Just to warn the truly faint of heart, this is one of my rare “You’re pissing me off, do better!” reviews. It’s inevitable that with the huge list of comics I check on that some would be read just because they’re on my update list. Some of these comics are obvious, such as EGS or CRfH, as I’ve openly criticized them here at Tangents. Others are hinted at by how long I’ve been silent about them. One such sleeper which has slipped by on mediocrity is the nuclear engineering webcomic Nukees. It’s like… ever since we learned the truth behind King Luca’s past, and the young women whose pictures were in his treasure room… all the heart has left the comic.
And this is downright depressing. Nukees had tremendous promise. It had multiple plot twists that have been left dangling, untouched. We never saw anything come from when Cecilia stole Gav’s heart from Ma’at in the afterlife. Instead, she ended up somehow dating King Luca (and we weren’t shown how that relationship arose, but rather had it dropped into our laps). We’ve had no continuation of Cindy Lee’s investigation into Luca’s past (for even if we know what happened, Cindy Lee has no idea). Instead, the comic is spinning its wheels going nowhere fast.
The latest bit with the Christian Goth girl helping Gav search for the giant robotic ant just hasn’t been enjoyable. There’s been no real humor in it (Gav catching an airborne glass of Guinness doesn’t really count). Instead, I’ve found myself skimming the strip and quickly moving on to the next comic in my reading list. Nukees… has become boring. It seems like with the dethroning of Luca, the heart and soul of Nukees has gone missing. No doubt it lies in Cecilia’s closet, along with Gav’s rotting heart.
