Tangents Archive Recovery

October 15th, 2008 by Tangent

Just a heads up for people who happen across the site through various links:

I’m currently working on restoring the archives for Tangents. In doing so I’ve been doing small modifications of early posts, by using smaller images and by consolidating paragraphs (and thus setting some early smaller reviews as “Secants”). This is going to take a couple of weeks, in all likelihood, if not longer.

At the same time, I also plan on doing other modifications to the site, such as selecting a theme that I like, adding Project Wonderful advertising, and other changes that I feel will be good for the site.

Tangents is continuing to update, and the backup site can be found at the backup Livejournal site: http://looniewolf.livejournal.com

Meantime, feel free to read through the restored archives, and even comment on some of them.

Take care

Yay! You finally got your own site!

Yup. ^^ Now I just have to put three+ years of reviews onto the database. Though it does give me the opportunity to fix broken links and reduce image sizes (and the like). I’m not entirely happy with the calendar for this theme, or with the font for my page title, but it’s still fairly shiny. ^^

    How goes the archive recovery?

Gradual. This weekend was busy (and painful after I fell backwards off of a bottom step and backflopped onto the lawn) and I didn’t get many reviews up. However, I’ve been managing at least one day’s worth of reviews a day for the early stuff… which usually consisted of three or four reviews.

I’m also working backward with newer stuff, and am about ready to start transcribing what was up on the Tan-index page before P2P went down.

One thing I’m working to do is fix broken links and the like… and have updated old reviews with addendums concerning the fate of sites that aren’t with us any longer or have significantly changed (such as Elf Life and Alice).

Also, I altered the titles for the reviews to just mention the comic, rather than having “Secant” or “Tangent” in it (which were the titles for article sizes – tangents being larger than secants). I figured it looks more professional.
