One moment I truly enjoyed about the mad science webcomic Narbonic was that moment when the comic’s meta-story started coming into view (concerning Dave, his future, and what his true potential was). I’ve been watching and waiting for similar hints to appear in Shaenon K. Garrity’s spiritual sequel, Skin Horse. Recent events surrounding the sentient vegetable intelligence the Cypress have provided such a hint, but rather than focus on any one primary character I suspect SH is working toward an inter-agency conflict between Skin Horse and its rival, Anasigma. Just what Anasigma’s purported role in handling rogue creations of mad science is still fuzzy, but given their actions to try and destroy the Cypress (and spying on the agents of Skin Horse), it is likely a dark reflection of the Skin Horse group. Still, I can’t help but think I’m missing something vital concerning Tip, who I suspect may yet play a central role in the upcoming conflict. Considering even approaching the end of Narbonic Garrity was pulling twists I didn’t anticipate, it’s likely any of my speculations will prove wide of the mark in any event.
