For a while now I’ve felt that the transformation webcomic Misfile has been stuck in place. The angelic murder mystery has been stuck on a back burner for a while, and it’s obvious that cartoonist Chris Hazelton isn’t about to expand on Ash and Emily’s relationship (though if Emily said “screw it” and cornered Ash in the garage then maybe this relationship inertia could be overcome). So when in doubt what to do next, Hazelton has brought back Marie, Ash’s mom, to indulge in some good old-fashioned shopping. I have to admit I laughed at today’s update when Marie said it’s boring to go shopping with men as there’s no sense of adventure to it; this is one of those situations where Ash’s dual nature comes into its own. Of more interest to me though was the obvious hostility shown between Ash’s parents (who are divorced); I must admit I’d be interested in seeing this tale expanded upon, even if it’s at the expense of the continued non-relationship between Ash and Emily.
