Chirault

While I’ve been reading the fantasy comic Chirault for a year now, I never got around to reviewing it. After a half dozen false starts today, I realize why. I could go on for pages about this comic and still not come up with a clear summary of the story; thus I apologize, this is going to be confusing. Chirault is the story of Kiran, a demon-hunter in a world where humans have pointy-ears, nature spirits are powerful and vindictive (meaning humanity hasn’t expanded much), and there are a number of demonic species in the world… including Kiran. After an incident that leaves a young female demon shrunk to the size of a doll and a swatch of trees (and part of a town) crushed as if some giant had pressed his thumb onto that part of the world, Kiran ends up embroiled in a mission with his companions to discover what has happened, and how to set things right. And while the story may be confusing in places (due in part to an archive that’s over 500 pages in length), I’ve found the story enjoyable and definitely have to recommend it.
